11.04.2011

The “Alliance of Egyptian Rebels” has honored a number of journalists and media organizations and workers in media field, during an auditorium held by the members of the alliance at “Galal Al Sharqawy Theatre”, naming Masrawy as the best website in covering the events of the Egyptian Revolution.

The auditorium was titled “The role played by media and journalism in bringing success or failure to the Revolution”, and was attended by the iconic theatre director Gala Al Sharqawy, who gave a word at the beginning of the event, starting it with a minute of silence on the souls of the revolution martyrs.

Amer Al Wakil, the alliance’s General Coordinator, stressed that the attendees were picked out with careful selectivity after a long session held by the members of the alliance.

Al Wakil disclosed selecting Masrawy website as the best website in covering the events of the revolution with utter objectivity and transparency and without fear or imposing any calculations or interests of any type whatsoever in this coverage, as many other websites did.

“For these reasons we invited Sherif Al Ogeil, the website’s General Manger, Emad Saied, the website’s Content Manager, and Ahmed Al Leithy, the website’s Managing Editor, to honour them,” Al Wakil said.

Al Wakil also disclosed the selection of author Wael Qandil who writes for Al Shorouk Newspaper, an independent daily newspaper, and Ahmed Fathy, a journalist within the same newspaper for their valuable roles in showing the true colors of the revels and the previous corrupt regime.

The alliance has also honored the renowned thinker, Prof Amar Ali Hassan, for the role his articles and books have played in revealing the truths about Mubark regime and the National Democratic Party.

It also honored the crew of Al Jazeera Satellite Channel, painted by the alliance as “the commandos team”, for the tremendous hardships they encountered during their coverage of the events.

As he received the accolade Abul Fatah Faied, the channel’s Cairo Office Manager, related what his team faced as their offices in Cairo were closed by the previous corrupt regime leading them sometimes to sleep in the streets after the hotels also refused to host them.

It also honored a number of TV programs: “Sabah Dream” program as one of the best TV programs, “Baldna Belmasry” (Our Country in Egyptian Dialect), presented by Rim Maged, as the best talk show, and the iconic journalist Yousry Fouda’s program “Akher Kalam” ( The Final Say).
